DR. SCOTT BUCKING
Director of the Beni Hassan in Late Antiquity Project
Dr. Bucking obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge and is currently Associate Professor of Ancient Mediterranean Studies at DePaul University. Dr. Bucking specializes in late antique Egypt and Palestine with a particular emphasis on monastic communities. His archaeological and epigraphic field research has been generously supported by grants from DePaul University, the U.S. Department of State-Fulbright Scholar Program, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Dr. Bucking has published extensively on late antiquity in the Near East and his work has appeared in leading journals, such as the Journal of Public Archaeology and Zeitschrift für Papyrologie und Epigraphik. He is also the author of the book, Practice Makes Perfect: P. Cotsen-Princeton 1 and the Training of Scribes in Byzantine Egypt.
